FAQs

What is modular construction?
The term modular construction is used where a building is assembled from a series of volumetric steel modules, linked together to form a complete structure. The modules, which are manufactured and finished (or partially finished) off-site, under factory conditions, are then transported to the construction site and lifted on to prepared foundations.

return to questions

Why use modular technology rather than traditional methods of construction?
Modular technology:
reduces construction times by up to 50%
reduces reliance on highly skilled labour
is safer, quieter and cleaner than traditional methods of construction
reduces the likelihood of defects
allows easy and low cost maintenance
offers designers and architects flexibility
is cost-effective

return to questions

Does the Verbus system differ from those of its competitors?
Yes. The Verbus system is built around newly developed, Patent Pending technology, and is far more robust than any other system on the market. At present, timber frame modular construction allows buildings of around four storeys to be built. However, the Verbus system will enable structures of at least 27 storeys to be assembled, within a matter of days. The robustness of Verbus modules also allows far greater variety in the type of finishing that can be applied to the exterior of the building.

return to questions

Is the Verbus system more expensive than other systems of modular construction on the market?
No it isn’t. The Verbus System reduces the present cost of modular construction by a substantial amount.

return to questions

Does the Verbus System offer flexibility in design?
Yes it does. Virtually any size or shape of building can be achieved. A wide range of cladding and roofing options, as well as other optional features, such as balconies, allow designers considerable scope to create a highly individual, aesthetically pleasing “look”.

return to questions

Are Verbus’s building systems quality assured and do they meet building regulations?
All Verbus’s processes are quality assured, tried and tested. Verbus uses well-established and accredited systems of manufacture and transportation. Verbus Systems’ modules meet or exceed thermal, structural and acoustic performance requirements for UK buildings. Modules can also be adapted to comply with any performance requirement currently published.

return to questions

How long will a Verbus building last?
A Verbus building has a structural life of over 60 years

return to questions

Would a Verbus building be appropriate for Social or Keyworker accommodation?
Yes it would. Verbus buildings are robust, low cost and available in high volume. They provide excellent solutions to the type of accommodation shortages currently faced by Local Councils and accommodation Associations.

return to questions

Would a Verbus building be appropriate for commercial use?
Yes it would. Verbus modules are ideal for the construction of, for example, hotels. Verbus buildings, which can be fitted out with the latest high-tech technology (e.g. IT and smart homes communication and control systems), are also appropriate for other types of commercial buildings such as offices.

return to questions

Can Verbus supply a large number of accommodation units at high speed?
Yes it can - the Verbus solution is truly high volume. This is due to the fact that the Verbus technology and process is derived from mature manufacturing and supply chains that already provide a parallel industry with about two million similar units per annum. Verbus production capacity can comfortably satisfy total UK industry requirements for modular accommodation units.
